Caxton, since you work at Penney's, please get in touch with your manufacturers and see if they can come up with a bedskirt we can put on without breaking our backs. I can't believe nobody has thought of this since they started making the bigger heavier mattresses. 5,286 posts, read 15,729,875 times
I feel a most-viewed video might be just around the corner. 856 posts, read 2,278,790 times Thanks for reviving the thread...this is hysterical. Lifting a latex mattress is very much like moving a large dead body. Don't ask me how I know this--I have no desire to do it again. Now I put on my bed skirt before I built my latex mattress, which I ordered it from an online company. The mattress comes in 3 boxes and I worked up quite a lather assembling it. Now they told me that if I was going to use my traditional box spring (which is fine), I'd need to lay a sheet of plywood over the box spring to give it some additional support. Being cheap, I didn't want to buy the plywood until the mattresses 90 day, money back guarantee was up. So 3 months later, I drive to the Home Depot and purchase plywood. I decided I would wrestle the mattress up over the foot board of the bed and balance it there while I add the board, then I could just slide it back over the rail onto the box spring.
I balanced it carefully and turned around to pick up the wood. A 150 pound mattress is now in a large pile on the floor at the foot of the bed. I pulled and groaned and panted and broke a couple of things--I still don't walk right--but the mattress never moved more than about a foot. It took 3 neighbors to get it back where it belongs. Thanksfully, I like my bedskirt very much. LOL My back was hurting and I was sweating like crazy and got the stupid bedskirt about half way and I just couldn't do it any more. blackout curtains cb2That's why I decided to do a search on line to see what others are doing. duvetyne black out fabricI did see some bedskirts that are detachable but they're very expensive and only come in white or beige. curtains kamdar
And then, what do you do with the one that comes with your comforter? My other problem is that when I got the higher mattress, I got the shorter box spring so I don't need a ladder to get in bed and now my bedskirts are 2 inches too short. I want to cut out the center and pin it on but haven't gotten up the nerve yet. My mom suggested sewing it up in the middle rather than hem the whole thing but then I still have the problem of getting it on the bed. Thanks for all your suggestions, and I really needed a few good laughs after the frustration. dunelm duck egg blue lamp shadesI can't believe the manufacturers haven't come up with a solution. target cassette tape shower curtainNot everyone lives with a houseful of football players, nor do I want to disrupt the whole neighborhood trying to round up an army of men to help put a bed skirt on.target circo elephant shower curtain

I have a Queen 10 inch deep mattress, although not a pillow top it may as well be, since if I were a sports car I would be described as low slung. So old squatty body decides she is too impatient to wait for dear hubby to turn and vacuum the mattress. I start at the foot of the handle less (of course) behemoth and slide it off side about an inch or so, run to the opposite side and do the same. made to measure curtains scunthorpeStop take a sip of water since it is no less than 85% humidity on the chosen day. I now lay down cross wise on the bed and roll to the headboard, where I attempt to wedge my knee and leg between the headboard and the slip of space generated by the aforementioned foot motion. I will say it took longer than I expected to slip into the space, but eventually I was able to get between the mattress and the head board.
I am facing down and start pushing with the right leg and arm until I have managed to move it about 1/2 way off the bed. At this point it is time for a drink again and a simple swing 180 degrees of the foot to the head position to rotate it. I now crawl underneath the mattress and with the squatty but strong legs push it off the bed to a standing at the foot position. I go to the right side of the mattress as I am looking at it and essentially make a 3 point turn with it so once I vacuum it,it is now it is properly positioned to flop back on the bed and shimmy it up, of course while holding the bed skirt. You would think it was that easy!!! Now comes the easy part...the box spring. Muscles McGuirk now use to hoisting and hefting dead weight simply flips the ever so light box spring up, and quickly slides it on the frame (easier to lift from a foot or so off the ground) to turn it top to bottom and proceeds to punch a 5 inch hole in the ceiling since we only have 8 foot ceilings!!!
Needless to say, it is now always a team job now!!!! I was not only really ticked off about the hole in the ceiling but if I knew this were going to happen I would have waited and not zapped all my energy on the mattress.!!! I told dh it was his fault!!!! Then made a real cocktail after all my work!!! 1 posts, read 2,375 times Everyone, Just wanted to say "thanks" ~ I'd been using an elastic (wrap) bed skirt, but purchased a new comforter w/full bed skirt. After several attempts, decided to check out a better way online, I used tacks placed on each end as well as center (all on side of box spring). The mattress/box spring are Temperpedic, quite heavy. The tacks worked like a charm ~ 1 posts, read 802 times 5,446 posts, read 6,638,996 times A wrap-around bedskirt may be your best option: 3,735 posts, read 4,164,331 times Originally Posted by Boomerang You can also decide against using a bed skirt at all, and just use an oversized bedspread.
