Getting enough quality sleep is extremely important. How can you sleep peacefully with lights and sounds disturbing your shut eye? Easily outfit the home with blackout curtains to improve energy efficiency, light control, noise control, and add impeccable flair! Ordinary curtains and drapes may look pretty enough, but they won’t do a thorough job blocking out that intrusively hot summer sunlight when the air conditioner’s working overtime to keep things cool. And when winter arrives, there’s no more worrying about freezing cold drafts coming from the uncovered windows in the home. This translates into substantially lower heating and cooling costs during times it counts the most! Plus, blackout curtains can effectively block out much unwanted street noise that ordinary curtains do nothing against—do you live by a busy street, a construction site, or a large highway?

If so, you’ll definitely want to grab some of these. Blackout curtains are able to filter out at a significant percentage of outside noise, so say goodbye to annoyingly loud and jarring noises that wake you up in the middle of the night! Blackout curtains are a must have for shift workers. You’ll fall asleep faster and stay asleep with the sunlight completely shut out of your room. Use them in the family room or lounge to remove that annoying glare on the television. Before purchasing, remember to also pick up some appropriately sized curtain rods and hardware to install them! Be sure to choose your favorite color from our wide selection—whatever unique design theme your home’s interior décor follows, we’ve got the perfect set of blackout curtains for you! There are four different types of heat loss that occur round our windows: conduction, infiltration, convection and radiation. Energy efficient curtains help to prevent heat from leaving and entering your home. You’ve probably found yourself cranking up the heat during the winter to combat that pesky draft you can’t get rid of. With energy efficient curtains from JCPenney, your home will stay warmer because the heat inside is not escaping and the cold air stays outside. The reverse occurs during the summer. The sweltering heat will stay outside and the cool air from you’re A/C stays in. All year long you save money while maintaining the perfect home temperature in style. Insulating Curtains & Thermal Curtains: Money Saving Styles Insulating curtains and thermal curtains do wonders for your bank account. The amazing thing about these curtains is that they come in the same beautiful styles and colors as traditional window dressings. Shop stunning grommet top curtains from Liz Claiborne, Studio, JCPenney, Home, and many other brands.

Holiday decorations are packed away and 2015 is officially behind you. It’s a good time to get inspired and think about how to give your rooms a facelift to freshen things up for the coming year. This should be a fun project that will lift your spirits—and your home—right out of the winter doldrums. Most people aren’t as obsessed with home textiles as I am, but I love how you can completely transform a room just by changing out a few pieces.

The biggest bang for your buck comes with changing out your window curtains. Curtains act as the anchor for any room, and you can create a brighter, more casual feel simply by adding white or light-colored panels. Change with the seasons I may be a bit extreme, but I change out the curtains in my bedroom two or three times a year. When fall is coming, I hang rich cotton velvet drapes to give the room a sense of that cozy autumn season. Then around the new year, I opt for something a little whiter and brighter. I layer JCPenney Home Quinn panels with Royal Velvet Crushed Voile sheers, both in cool white. During the middle of summer, I want blackout or room-darkening panels that help keep out the hot sunlight but are still brightly colored. Studio Luna or Studio Arden Wave panels have that punch of color I love, with a fun “beachy” feel. Luna works because it’s got a lovely geometric texture and comes in great colors like teal or plum. Another good choice is JCPenney Home Castor, which comes in the perfect navy color.

Think about colors, patterns and textured fabrics The choices you make set the tone for the entire room. Light colors can make a small room feel bigger and brighter, while simply changing fabric varies the mood from room to room. In the living room, choosing something a bit more colorful or with a pattern could help liven things up. If you have a lot of solid colors in the rest of the room—sofa, carpet, walls—it’s better to choose a bold color or patterned style that will have a bigger impact. Figure out the mood you want to create For a casual feel, check out the JCPenney Home Cotton Classics collection. It’s made of 100% cotton fabric and comes in both grommet-top and rod-pocket styles. Or, like me, you can go for the JCPenney Home Quinn collection. It’s a casual, textured-fabric panel that comes in solid colors as well as a lattice or leaf pattern. If you want an updated traditional look, try Liz Claiborne Gallery Taffeta panels or Royal Velvet’s Supreme, Plaza or faux-silk Encore styles.

For the bedroom, most of us want something more serene. The Liz Claiborne Lisette sheer panel in a lovely aqua dust color is both serene and romantic. Consider combining it with solid white voile sheers or the Liz Claiborne Marina sheer, which has an embroidered teardrop pattern. These sheers can be layered with heavier-weight fabric panels or paired with other sheer fabrics. If you love contemporary looks, Studio Trio and Studio Dylan instantly update any room with color banding or an ombré effect. Studio Kramer grommet-top sheers layer nicely with both. Room-darkening or blackout panels are also favorite choices for the bedroom. You can still use sheers to layer underneath, giving you privacy while also letting in light during the day. For light-controlling panels, I recommend Royal Velvet Plaza or Liz Claiborne Kathryn. Both come in an array of colors, as well as different styles. Liz Claiborne Henri is another great choice, with its subtle geometric design and beautiful soft-color palette.

Pull the look together with rugs and accent pillows If you choose to go with solid colors on your windows, think about adding a patterned rug to serve as the main focus. The Nourison Pinwheels rug comes in four great colors. There are also several lattice-patterned rugs—always a timeless classic—such as Arabesque, Mohawk Home Trellis or Nourison Amore. One of my favorites is the shag rug. You can find several different options for this, too, such as the Cosmopolitan, Nourison Amore shag or the JCPenney Home Washable Shag collection. To tie everything together, add a few decorative pillows. My favorites are from the JCPenney Home collection, including Velvet Ogee, Belle Petals, Sparkle Beaded and Chenille pillows. These offer a perfect mix of texture and sparkle, and they come in a range of colors—from vibrant teals and soft neutrals to warm, rich reds and spice colors. And since it’s still cold outside, add a plush throw as a final touch. It’s a great piece to snuggle up with while admiring your newly made-over room.
