(Will they EVER return?) All images via Lonny Hop over to Lonny if you're interest, and they're on Twitter so you can know right away as soon as the next issue it out! Wee Gallery is a really cool shop that offers cute, high contrast art cards that can be attached to a mobile. You can face them out to please everyone, but more importantly you can face the cards down so that baby sees them all!

And because babies see black and white best at first, I thought this was the best option out there. After we got home from our shopping trip my Mom ordered us our crib!!! After much internet searching, I found a Canadian retailer called Lusso Baby who was willing to ship it for free, and they ship within 2 business days (unlike the 6-8 weeks I kept being told from other places).I am so thrilled (and relieved) to say that the nursery for my second baby boy, who is due in April, is finally complete! Due to a hectic few months (including everyone in the family coming down with some sort of illness), this project has taken twice as long as it should have. But, that is just life I suppose. So, without further ado, I present to you the rustic, tribal nursery…… To fully appreciate the transformation, let’s take a look at what the space looked like when we first moved into our fixer upper. Between the popcorn ceilings (painted in a dingy tone called “Cinnamon Roll”), a dark beige paint color on the walls, and dingy trim and baseboards (also painted in “Cinnamon Roll”…wtf?) , the space was dark and outdated.

To brighten the space (and bring it into the year 2016) we removed the popcorn (which was a bit of a messy ordeal), painted the walls in Benjamin Moore “Revere Pewter”, installed a ceiling fan and painted the trim, doors, baseboards and ceilings in an ultra-white. In fact, I spent an entire day painting the trim, baseboards and doors in an ultra- white (all while getting down to some old-school, gangsta rap might I add).

vassiliadis curtainsWhy anyone would have chosen “Cinnamon Roll” as the primary color for ceilings and trim is completely beyond me…..the room is now so much brighter and uplifting.

If you are a regular on my blog, you know I love hues of turquoise and aqua. So you know, there was no way I was going to go without it in the nursery. The crib originally belonged to my two year old son. In preparation for the baby, I figured it would be a good time for my two year old to transition to a bed.

curtains removed from 2acThe mobility and freedom that comes along with a “big boy bed” has been way too overstimulating for him – the kid simply refuses to sleep.

My inspiration for baby boy #2’s nursery first came from a tapestry I purchased at Target. I loved how the elements of the wall art were fresh, modern, rustic and tribal, all while still being “soft” and “sweet” enough for a nursery. I found these awesome turquoise door handles on sale at Hobby Lobby for $3 a piece. With my love for turquoise, I was in hog heaven….I knew I had to find a way to incorporate them into my home. And while I love a good chandelier, don’t kid yourself…babies are adorable, but they are stinky! With all of the dirty diapers, I knew I had to compromise fashion for form…so I went with a minimalist, modern ceiling fan. With all of the stinky poo poo diapers, we will need all of the circulation we can get in here. I wanted the kiddos to have a space of their own for arts and crafts. So, I up-cylced this kiddie desk I found at a local antique store and painted it with some grey milk paint. My two-year old has already managed to place stickers (which i cannot seem to remove) all over the desk and chairs.

Eventually, I would like my husband to build some custom shelves to store books and art supplies, but with everything he has had to do lately, I simply don’t have the courage to boss him around anymore than I have already. He needs a break. I found the colorful prints at Hobby Lobby and incorporated taxidermy I already owned into this wall gallery. I found these tribal, geometric textiles at Target. And here is a shot of the wall tapestry that propelled the creative process in motion for this room. I would have rather used a more modern, utilitarian type of lamp here, but I already owned this mercury glass lamp and wanted to put it to use. I purchased all of the components of this vignette from Target. I love how these accents exude a more modern take on rustic decor. And with all of the mentions of Target, you would think I am a brand-ambassador, but no one is paying me to promote their products. Actually, a lot of these purchases are made on a “grocery run” to Target….I go in with a mission to adhere only to my grocery list and always manage to leave with more than just “milk and bread”.
