You know that feeling when you unearth a killer deal at a designer sample sale? Swiping your card always feels extra sweet when you know you’re paying a quarter of the price for something that will look deceptively chic. We get a similar thrill out of spotting an IKEA staple in a beautiful home. Inexpensive elegance is hard to create, but we’ve rounded up eight rooms that prove you don’t need to spend a lot to give your home a sophisticated flair. Get your add-to-cart buttons ready—we bet you’ll want to recreate these high/low looks in your own home. You know that feeling when you unearth a killer deal at a designer sample sale? Jenny Brandt via Residence This geometric weave looks great layered against a white backdrop, organic textures, and edgy accents—like in the Moscow home of designer couple Harry Nuriev and Marya Kacharava. It gives this otherwise modern space a hint of tradition. A little sheepskin can add a big impact to a room, especially when it involves a bathroom with a fireplace!

These fluffy numbers look best near vanities or beds—where we tend to linger in the morning. They are also fantastic when thrown atop a chair for an extra-cozy feel. You won’t find a more versatile piece for $13! The Lappljung Ruta Rug This black-and-white tribal rug adds intrigue to a monochrome room. Pair with simple furniture and let the diamond shapes infect the room with vibrancy. To give the Lappljung Ruta rug an even more elevated feel, try infusing subtle chrome and brass accents in the room, to really make it stand out. The Alvine Ruta Rug Courtesy of Emily Henderson; We love the understated texture this light, patterned rug adds to a room—especially a room whose hardwood floors are on the warmer side. Orlando Soria skillfully elevated the Alvine Ruta rug by repeating its colors in other accents throughout the room: a velvet pillow here, an elegant silkscreen headboard there—very chic. Don’t underestimate the power of a basic gray rug, especially when you have an all-white room.

We love the rich softness this piece brings to a whitewashed room, especially when accented by darker-colored basics in black and indigo. If you’re lucky enough to have a walk-in closet, don’t let it go bare. Dress it up with this Alhede rug. This neutral Osted rug adds warmth and texture to any room it lives in. We love the idea of layering it on top of a white painted floor and adding touches of neon pink, plus stark black-and-white art as a backdrop to offset its more rustic nature. The durable yet elegant nature of this rug also makes is a perfect candidate for mudrooms and entryways. Courtesy of Emily Henderson, design by Orlando Soria If there’s one IKEA rug that has attained icon status, it’s the Stockholm rug. Designers from Emily Henderson to Nate Berkus have both used the striped black-and-white staple in their respective homes over the years, and the design is not going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, its minimal geometric nature could mean a comeback for the IKEA classic.

Want to turn a minimalistic interior up a notch without injecting color? Opt for this dramatic pattern and infuse a calm room with some energy. Warning: This pattern doesn’t mesh as well with all décor schemes. Keep the rest of your space simple, or you’ll run the risk of overloading the space. It's every fashion lover's dream to have a large, functional closet to store their great collection of shoes, clothing, makeup and accessories. So, when my fashionista client moved to a new home with small closets (seriously small, only 15 inches deep!), she commissioned me to help transform her third bedroom into a dream dressing room. The concept for this space was inspired by boutique retail shops. Through the use of a hanging closet bar, floating shelves, wall hooks and an open concept closet, the client can now go shopping for her clothes, bags and accessories.

The mirrors were less expensive than buying a large mirror that would fill the wall and makes a bold statement. The IKEA MICKE desk allows the client to store her makeup in the desk drawer. To the side of the desk are a series of floating acrylic shelves. For my client, her impressive collection of Mary Kay makeup is more than just bottles, it's a piece of decor. I chose to display the client's Mary Kay collection on acrylic shelves to 1) give more storage than the small MICKE Ikea desk would allow and 2) to draw attention to the beautiful packaging.

One thing I worked with the client on during this redesign was SIMPLIFICATION. I helped the client sort through her clothing to determine pieces she should keep or donate (based on when the last time she wore them — pieces not worn since college had to go!).

I also encouraged her to display clothing on the hanging bar that are seasonal and then to store everything else until the appropriate time of year. This way, the closet will get a face lift every season when new clothing gets swapped in. Lastly, I hand-painted a pair of heirloom curtains that were handed down to my client by her family. The client didn't want to throw them away, but couldn't see using the outdated sheer, flower-embroidered curtains in her dream closet. To bring these curtains back to the 21st century, I hand painted the embroidered flowers with black and silver metallic fabric paint. The result is a dramatic statement piece that hangs from ceiling to floor.
