Double curtain rods allows you to hang two layers of curtains, giving a two-dimensional effect to your window dressing. Usually, the under layer is a lightweight, thin material that allows soft light into the room. The top layer is usually a thick, more decorative fabric. Two layers of curtains gives a lot of versatility to the room. From a design perspective, it allows you to add dimension to the room with two different textures and weights of fabric. It also allows you to control the amount of light in the room, and the amount of visibility you have through the windows. But, you don’t need to hire a professional to install them; this task can be mastered by even the most unhandy of homeowners in just 20 minutes. Step 1 – Decide Where to Put Your Brackets The higher on the wall you place the brackets, the more spacious your room will appear. A general rule of thumb is to install the brackets at least 4 inches above the top of the window frame. They should also be 2-3 inches out from the sides of the window frame so that the rods will hang a little over the edges.

This creates the illusion of a wider window. Step 2 – Mark Your Bracket Placement Use your level to lightly draw horizontal lines where you’ve decided to install each bracket, ensuring that the brackets will line up evenly with each other. Hold the first bracket up and mark on the wall where the screw holes are. Do the same for the other. Step 3 – Mount Your Brackets You may use wall anchors or drywall screws first if you are not screwing your bracket into a stud. If this is the case, screw them into the screw marks you have made on the wall. This will increase the installation’s strength. Next, line your bracket back on the wall and screw the top screw through the bracket hole into the wall (or into the wall anchors). Do the same for the bottom screw. (Note: Longer windows may require three or more brackets to prevent sagging in the middle of the rods.) Step 4 – Hang the Curtains Once the brackets are mounted, put the first set of curtains on the rod that will be closest to the wall.

If your curtain rods are different thicknesses, the thinner one is meant for the back because traditionally they carry the light, shear drapes. Position the rod on the bracket and use a level to make sure that it is hanging straight. Do the same for the front curtains. Don’t forget to put the end caps on the rods. For a more appealing look, you can put decorative finals on the front rod and simple end caps on the back. High to low rating Low to high rating No light comes through these curtains. They keep the Las Vegas heat out. I like the grommet as they make it very easy to pull the curtains back in the afternoon as the sun is setting. Great curtains for the price. Keeps the sun out which makes it cooler in summer and lessens electricity bill!! They pull back nicely when not in use. They just work perfect for me! My bedroom window faces east in Florida. I have the black color curtains. This curtain is not a blackout curtain, since some light comes through, but it does block more light than the regular curtains I had before.

The folds haven't settled out yet but I think that happens after they have been up for a while? They are slightly shiny. The Walmart website was not specific enough in its description of the drapes. I was looking for thermal weave-which is a higher quality and when this order came it was thermal back. So I had to return them, as it does not insulate from heat/cold as well. White has a grey tone to it but works well for my room. Bought a second pair in another color but had to return due to not matching with my colors.
