Curtains finds Tindersticks exploring the same dark, string-drenched territory as their first two albums, and while it shares a surface similarity with its predecessors, there are subtle differences that make it a rewarding listen. The tone of Curtains is slightly brighter than that of the second album, with the songs unfolding into lush, affecting laments that recall Scott Walker at his finest. Though the sound is seductive, what is most impressive about Curtains is the songwriting. The Tindersticks have become more assured writers, letting the songs gradually develop into intimate epics. Stuart Staples' lyrics are similarly textured and subtle, with alternating layers of pathos and humor. Curtains, in many ways, functions as the culmination of what the Tindersticks set out to accomplish with their first two albums, and the results are appropriately stunning.

It largely consists of strings-heavy ballads with strong melodies and great singing. This is a solid album, with back-to-back strong tracks. Another Night In, Let's Pretend, and Buried Bones are my favorites. Probably the most characteristic Tindersticks album so far. The sound is much more precise than the other albums.
I give that to the specific use of brass instruments all over the album. But other than that, it is the good old Tinderticks to mellow your soul with usual juxtaposition in lyrics and melody. "Rented Rooms" and "A Mariage Made in Heaven" caught my eye, ahem, ears right away. I bought this album when it came out and I remember the first time I played it. I put it in the car stereo and all the people in the car just got quiet. ...but a big thing it is! I've been listening to this album for almost three months now, in a car, an iPod, stereo, computer.. been singing to myself a little to. To me the first three albums by this band were the best with Curtains as the ultimate masterpiece. The compositions are all very good. I do enjoy the song 'fast one' the most.This is f**** good! The Tindersticks' 3rd full-lenght album is an amazing collection of beautiful songs that somehow follows the unmistakable way paved by the band's first...
