A father has created a life-like Christmas scene in his own home - using a £3 shower curtain. Garry Lofthouse covered the windows of his Ingleby Barwick home in projections and music, creating a unique winter wonderland. The 43-year-old dad of three has entertained scores of visitors with life-like projections of Santa and every child’s favourite snowman, Olaf. He was inspired by a Halloween display he saw in the window of a house while on holiday in America. Garry, an animation control system designer, said: “I thought it looked fantastic, and it’s as simple as getting a shower curtain. “We normally go away for New Year, and we spent the last couple of years in Lapland. We decided to stay home this year. “We just wanted to some something different than normal. We spent Halloween in Florida and I saw a projection on one of the houses. “I researched it, and it’s just a computer, a projector on the window and a shower curtain. I already had the PC and projector, and the shower curtain cost £3 from B&Q!”

Garry says his children, Ashleigh, 13, Joshua, 12 and nine-year-old Gabby, think the display is “fabulous”, and it has attracted a lot of visitors. He said: “We’re getting a lot of people round, it’s just fantastic. I had a lady the other day say ‘I hope you don’t think I’m stalking you’, she’d been to see it several times. “Next year, I’m thinking of getting some charity buckets, as people seem to enjoy it. We’ll do a bigger and better one.” The display also plays sound, and resembles Santa Clause placing presents under the Christmas tree. One of the upstairs windows plays a sequence from the hit movie, Frozen. Garry will be cooking for his extended family this Christmas day, and no doubt more people will make the trip to Priorwood Gardens to visit the projections on the day itself. And the illusion carries on into the house, with the inside of the windows adopting an Arctic theme. Garry and his wife, Lindsay, have been living in the house for almost 10 years, and welcome anyone who would like to see the display.
