This feelings led us to pick up a ‘Yorkshire Life’ magazine this January, to find... William Morris (1834-1896) �r tvekl�st v�rldens mest k�nda socialistiska tapetdesigner. Tillsammans med bland andra medlemmar ur det Prerafaelitiska Br�draskapet startade han 1861 ett inredningsf�retag vars m�l var att g�ra god hantverksm�ssigt producerad design f�r folket, som en uttalad reaktion p� industrialismens massproduktion. Estetiken byggde framf�r allt p� medeltida f�rlagor.F�retaget blev en succ�, �ven om kundkretsen fr�mst utgjordes av kyrkor, kungligheter och v�lbest�llda privatpersoner, eftersom det exklusiva hantverket var f�r dyrt f�r de breda massorna, och den omfattande produktionen innefattade bland annat gobel�nger, m�bler, kakel och glasm�lningar.

Under 1900-talets f�rsta h�lft blev dock stilen omodern och 1940 k�pte Sanderson upp hela den �terst�ende verksamheten.
