This kids' room can sleep up to 6 youngsters with a pair of trundle bunk beds. Seaside antiques found in local shops and country Swedish wallpaper adds to the charm. ©Gibbs Smith, Barry Dixon Interiors, Brian D Coleman. Design: Barry Dixon/Photo: Edward Addeo An escape from the tropical heat, this living room is cool and restful, centered with a bench and matching pair of sofas. Simple wicker chairs and a sea grass carpet add to the relaxed island atmosphere. Japanese raku pots line the shelf above the open kitchen pass-through. The bar stools were custom designed to be comfortable and backless so as to keep the view unobstructed while being sturdy enough to not tip over easily.

The front door is visible to the left of the kitchen. Nothing says nautical like a wall covered in a gorgeous map from floor to ceiling. The model sailboat on the rustic wood table adds a sense of wanderlust. It's hard to choose what to love more: the map wallpaper or the gorgeous barn-style doors. Design: ZeroEnergy Design/Photo: Eric Roth This cozy Hawaiian cottage hits all the coastal high notes: striped rugs, breezy curtains, slouchy slipcovered sofas and a vintage blue trunk with a lovely, well-worn painted finish. An ornate gilded mirror hangs among a collection of botanical prints on the wall. Create a seaside feel by bringing outdoor elements indoors, like these wicker dining chairs. The lantern-shaped chandelier adds a touch of marine whimsy. Design: Rethink Design Studio/Photo: Richard Leo Johnson/Atlantic Archives Slipcovers are a low-maintenance choice for this room that was designed with kids in mind. Nautical art and knot motifs are just a few details that tie into the coastal style of this home located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Travertine-style porcelain tile clads floors and wall surfaces in the master bathroom, lending a sandy beach style to the interior. A dramatic piece of art provides the focal point for this open living room. The commissioned painting uses washed-out shades of aqua to give a serene coastal feeling to the space. A rustic black coffee table grounds the room and contrasts with the warm timber floors. Design: Anna Williams/Photo: Naomi Abdilla Inspired by this home's beachfront location, cool blues and greens come together with a collection of sea-inspired prints to bring the outdoors in. Four tables form a large cocktail table in this stylish beach house living room. The chocolate-and-white woven damask fabric contrasts with the upscale wicker club chairs. Orange-striped draperies hung on bamboo poles give the room a splash of color, as do the canvas throw pillows and hand-blown glass table lamps. Symmetry and texture give a sense of order to this multifunctional living room.

Custom reclaimed wood cabinets provide storage for media and games while adding an elegant feel. A wallpapered back of this custom shelving unit makes a statement against the painted blue shelves and trim, as seen on Meg's Great Rooms on HGTV. For a masculine touch, the brown leather bed is a dark anchor in this bedroom. Tall mirrors and glass lamps in a sepia color balance out the height of the bed, reflecting light around the dark space. Keep your fabrics and linens casual and soft in a beach-inspired space -- select items you'd love to come in to straight off the beach. Want to spend more than just summer days at the beach? Try some stylish coastal, nautical or beach design in your own home. The walls of this bathroom were painted a khaki color, giving the space a coastal feel. Nautical inspiration came from vintage travel posters, framed and hung here over a storage bench. This calm space was designed for a dad who wanted his kids to feel comfortable visiting and to be able to relax after long work days.

A sisal rug, slubby woven couch fabric and nautical accents. This room is a soothing retreat thanks to use of neutral sand and sea colors inspired by the beach. Pops of coral make the space anything but boring. HGTV fan dgabriele used neutral hues and subtle seashell decor to create a chic, sea-inspired living space. An eclectic mix of distressed furniture and crisp white accents showcase the casual elegance of a refined yet shabby space. HGTV fan homemom's white-on-white living room brings an airy beach feel to her home. Natural textures plus seaside accents complete this cozy look. Staying with neutral shabby chic hues, HGTV fan pattiny1 mixed white, cream and blue to create a comfy space fit for sea dwellers. Stunning seashells, driftwood and starfish make perfect decor for a seaside retreat like this — just make sure you're up early enough to snag the prettiest ones from the shoreline. HGTV fan rnhey wanted to create a light, airy dining room ideal for casual year-round entertaining, so she used this fresh hue as the base for her entire design.

The upholstered cane-backed chairs, freshly painted table and vintage marine life prints are reminiscent of relaxed summers and shabby seaside homes. White beadboard walls allow the sand-colored curtains and accessories to act as complementary accents rather than simply appearing in the background. Stripes always work for a nautical theme, but HGTV fan Beachyone didn't stop there. Weathered oars above a wicker headboard complete the beach-style look of this guest bedroom. For HGTV fan Beachyone's guest bedroom, the secret of making the most of a small space is simple: symmetry. The matching beds and perfectly proportioned artwork create a room any beachcombing guest would adore. Just because a room is inspired by the sea doesn't mean it can't be sleek, too. This sexy space was created with the beach in mind, but adds fun accessories like the zebra-print area rug for a splash of unexpected color and pattern. HGTV fan KarenSpirit knows exactly how to create the perfect balance between sophisticated elegance and beach chic.

For a sandy look, she uses ginseng bone travertine on the walls and floor and brown grass cloth behind the vanity. She effortlessly pulls the entire look together with simple sea-inspired accessories. A color palette of white, gray and creams create a tranquil seaside look for HGTV fan rkm1213's coastal living room. But what really pulls the look together is the repetition of aqua as a soothing accent color. The sandy shade of ceramic tile floors, designed to resemble shimmering quartzite, contributes to the space's beachy design theme. A Floridian-print shower curtain lends a vintage touch. To conserve square footage, hallways have been eliminated in favor of pass-through spaces. Furnished and cozy, the loft makes use of what would otherwise be wasted space. Hard-working yet stylish, the laundry room makes a designer statement. Vibrant green walls connect to lush side yard views and a Jacksonville Beach, Fla., street light banner doubles as artwork. Telescoping glass doors open to reveal outdoor living areas, which expand the living room's square footage during warm-weather months.
