Read our Full Terms & Conditions The manufacture of Insulating Glass Units (also known as IGUs or DGUs) is the 'bread and butter' of the Padiham Glass operation.

Insulated glazing, more commonly known as double (or more increasingly triple) glazing, is manufactured by putting two or three panes of glass together, separated with a 'spacer' and a vaccum or gas-filled space, with the intention of reducing the heat transfer across a part of the building envelope. Insulated glass units are manufactured with glass in a range of thicknesses, averaging from a minimum 4 mm to 10 mm.

Most units are manufactured with the same thickness of glass used on both panes but special applications such as acoustic attenuation or security may require wide ranges of thicknesses to be incorporated in the same unit. At Padiham Glass, we manufacture approximately 10,000 insulating glass units every week. These products go out to large installer businesses, fabricators of UPVC and aluminium glazing systems and new-build-development contractors, but we always make sure we look after the local traders, builders and homeowners too!

Our services now extend to fire glass solutions, including our fire rated insulating glass unit brand, Pyrotherm. The fire safety environment is an adverse one and it can be intimidating. It is essential that specification and installation of fire resisting systems are done correctly. Fire resistant glass, as a single pane or as an IGU is designed for use as part of a complete fire resistant structure/system.
bed bath and beyond lancaster shower curtainIt is vital that the entire supply chain - from designers and specifiers through to suppliers and installers - adheres to current fire safety legislation and does so with great attention to detail. This allows the end user to ultimately ensure that the system as a whole satisfies the regulations and can obtain approval from competent authorities. Here at Padiham Glass, we have invested heavily and entered into the fire resistant glass market, but with a pro-active approach.

CE marking became mandatory in July 2013 and the provision of CE marked fire resistant insulating glass units requires certification to attestation level 1. We are proud to hold and maintain a commitment to our Construction Products Regulation certificate for the manufacture of our Pyrotherm Insulating Glass units. Our existing position within the market allows us to combine fire rated glass into a unit with backing panes to enhance thermal, solar and acoustic properties. So why buy from us? Our pro-active approach extends to offer help and assistance to our customers in terms of specification, certification, product data, test evidence and without exception, excellent customer service. We have invested heavily to make sure we have both the equipment and the resources needed to manufacture in house which enables us to offer excellent lead times and very competitive pricing. You can be confident that whether you are buying a Pyrotherm Insulating Glass Unit option or a single pane of fire resistant glass you will be buying a product that is covered by correct licensing, CE marking and can ultimately be traced to its source.

Our painted glass panels are manufactured to compliment a wide range of products used in curtain wall applications. The purpose of a spandrel panel is to cover backing walls and/or services. We recommend with all painted glass, a sample is ordered and viewed in the intended area with final lighting conditions before purchase. For the purpose of a visual inspection standard they should be viewed at 90º to the panel from the non coated side of the glass - they should not be viewed in transmitted light. Please call 01282 774124 to order your chosen sample. Acoustic laminated glass is the ideal solution for enhanced insulation against both airborne and impact noise. It provides exceptional levels of sound insulation whilst maintaining the safety and security properties of laminated glass
