There weren't any towel bars in the room to begin with and I knew I wanted something near the sink for the kids to use to dry their hands off.  I searched for the perfect towel ring and came up empty handed.  All the ones I loved where way too pricey.  Isn't that always the case?  So I eventually I came across these on Amazon.  The price was definitely right.  I think I paid around $3. I wasn't crazy about the shiny silver bracket, but that's nothing a little spray paint couldn't fix.
The plastic ring easily pops out so there's not taping involved either, which is always a plus.  I used my favorite gold spray paint to spray the brackets and they instantly looked better. And then the rest will just be accessorizing and sprucing things up a bit.  It will be a few months before we get started, but my wheels are already turning! Today I'm sharing our kids' bathroom makeover.  If you missed yesterday's post with the design plan and before pictures you can see it here.  Just to refresh your memory, here's where we started. I started by painting the walls gray.  Unfortunately it was a can of oops paint so I'm not sure of the color.  Then I started stenciling the flamingos.  I originally planned on doing white bodies with black legs just like the inspiration image, but after one small section I realized it was going to be way too busy and it was going to take me twice as long so I scratched that idea and went with all white.  (You can see my stenciling tips here)  On a side note, one thing I learned this time is to not use paint plus primer to stencil.  I thought it would cover better and it did, but it also adhered to the stencil more and made it much harder to periodically clean the buildup off.
After the walls were done, I painted the cabinets.  I lightly sanded the surface, applied two coats of primer, and then two coats of paint.  The paint color I chose is Behr Spring Stream.  We also switched out the hardware, replaced the towel bar with hooks, and added new mirrors. It turns out that was harder than it sounds.  Everything I came across was either way too girly or just kind of boring.  So when I saw this flamingo stencil from Royal Design Studio I knew it was the inspiration I was looking for.  Obviously flamingos don't scream masculine, but I knew that if I kept them white (vs. pink) that I could get away with it in a shared space.  First let's start with the before pictures.  There was nothing wrong with the room, but it was lacking personality.  It was just a basic builder's grade bathroom. Here are some of the things I wanted to accomplish.  Paint the vanity to update it and make it brighter and more fun.  That was a doozy but so worth it in the end.  After stenciling the nursery I think I'm done with stenciling for a while!  Update the lighting, replace the builder grade mirror, add a small stool to help when bathing the kids, and replace the shower curtain.  I also wanted to replace the towel bar with hooks and add in a few new accessories.

I kept the entryway simple with my DIY art, a few accessories, and a small nativity. My daughter and I did a little Christmas crafting one afternoon and she made me this tree for my office.  I love it and I love that she smothered it with pom poms.  Homemade decor is the best!  We found the idea for them here. We had to add one more stocking this year for our little guy so I picked these up at Homegoods.  (You can find similar ones here)  I personalized them with these letter ornaments from Target.  I love the modern, streamlined look of them.
