There’s a rooftop “Chill-Out Terrace,” with 360-degree views, canopied daybeds, high-top cocktail tables and a glass-sided swimming pool; a casual “gastrobar” for sandwiches and tapas, with recessed lighting and sweeping street views ideal for people-watching; and a Michelin-starred restaurant with eclectic fish and meat selections. There’s also a fitness center with a few cardiovascular machines and a set of dumbbells. The spa offers a sauna and massage, hairstyling and makeup services for a fee.THE ROOMHere is where things get truly daring. The main attraction in the room is the shower, situated conspicuously in the center and enclosed on three sides by glass. A large stainless-steel shower head is suspended above, which gave the sensation of bathing in the rain. It’s a decidedly public experience that probably isn’t ideal for platonic travel partners or for anyone with a trace of inhibition.

The front half of the 100-square-foot room is lined with dark gray Formica from floor to ceiling, interrupted only by a few tiny silver handles that can be pulled to reveal closets and storage nooks. A sink with a square white basin also shares the common space. There is a flat-panel television, a climate-control system with a multilingual display and an iPod/iPhone docking system. The busy street below is almost undetectable, thanks to blackout curtains and impressively soundproof glass. THE BATHROOMWhere’s the toilet? Not behind any of those handles. Instead, a section of the wall can be pushed to reveal a hidden door. A strip of fluorescent light, stretching from the front door to the wall-size window, illuminates the room like an aisle in a Walmart. A blond oak floor and green-accented window curtain and headboard break up the cold aesthetic, but just barely. There is no rug, but there is a menu of pillow types, linens and even aromas.
