Open year round the Country Place Hotel is a premier historic country inn built in 1900 and restored in 2003 within the guidelines of the Texas Historical Commission. Our eight second floor guestrooms feature private tiled bathrooms, hand made quilts, rocking chairs and fresh flowers in the rooms. We welcome our guests to quiet weekends in the country. Enjoy your Country Place Hotel weekend “in the slow lane” on the historic town square in Fayetteville, Texas. Check in on Friday afternoon, relax in your room before walking next door to Orsak's Cafe for their famous fried catfish. Saturday morning enjoy morning coffee in the upstairs parlor or on the front balcony before going downstairs to a gourmet breakfast. After breakfast, stroll the shops on the square and homes in the City of Fayetteville, a national historic district. A self-guided walking tour is published by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce on their website. Don't forget to see our historic Courthouse in the center of the square.

Built in 1880 and restored in 2002, our courthouse is the only remaining original structure precinct courthouse in Texas. Then visit the historic paintings by Ignaz Johann Berger, at St. John's Church. Pick up some picnic supplies at Jerry's General Store on the square, and enjoy a drive in the countryside, perhaps a swim at Lake Fayette, just two miles from town. In the afternoon, come back to your room for a siesta. Tour the Fayetteville Area Heritage Museum on the Square, then finish the day with dinner and drinks at Joe's Place. Close the blackout curtains and sleep in on Sunday. we never send anyone away hungry. Your breakfast feast includes: eggs, meat, fruit, granola, yogurt and Clovis' muffins. After breakfast, let Clovis give you a tour of his artwork in the Moravian room and tell you the history of the hotel. The building that is now the Country Place Hotel, was built by Hugo Zapp, Sr. in 1900. When the Zapp Building opened as the premier mercantile building in Fayetteville, the town had a population of 2000, and was thriving as the commercial center for nearby farmers, due to the railroad depot and cotton gin.

The Zapp Building has earned a historic marker as an unusually fine and well-preserved example of the Romanesque Revival style of architecture. After Hugo Zapp Jr.'s death in 1915, J.P.K. Knippel bought the store and operated it for fifty years. Other sections of the building were occupied by various commercial tenants, which included, at various times, a photographer, a hospital, a school, a cafe, a boarding house, and in the basement during Prohibition, a speakeasy. In the late 1960's the Knippel family sold the building to the Keller family from Houston. The Kellers sold the building to Clovis and Maryann Heimsath in 1972. Clovis and Maryann opened the first Country Place Hotel as a bed and breakfast, and also ran a restaurant called The Country Place Restaurant, on the first floor. The Heimsaths also operated their architecture firm on the first floor until 1983, when the firm moved to Austin (The architecture firm, Heimsath Associates, specializes in liturgical design and historic renovation, and is now led by Clovis and Maryann's oldest son, Ben Heimsath.)

Today, Fayetteville remains a peaceful small town, a place to relax and enjoy the art, culture, traditions, food, antiques, and outdoor activities that rural Central Texas has to offer.Curtains by RastogisWishing you all a Happy and Colourful 2017! :)Curtains by RastogisThese lovely vines in a beautiful jacquard weave provide the perfect setting to indulge the dreamer in you.
