February 2 – February 26, 2017 Written by Nick Jones, Directed by Alex Levy Inspired by true events, Trevor is a subversive comedy about fame, success, and the lies we tell ourselves in order to keep people from taking away an erratic, 200-pound chimpanzee. At the center of this hilarious and heart-wrenching play are two individuals fighting against a world unable to understand their love: Trevor, a chimpanzee who once performed in commercials with the likes of Morgan Fairchild, and his owner Sandra, who swears he would never hurt a fly…at least not on purpose. A moving exploration of family, flawed communication, and humanity. “With strong performances throughout, this subversive show is dark comedy at its best.”

Connecting the community through artwork, stories, and conversation. Join us for discussions surrounding the themes of our plays and the impact of these stories on the community beyond our walls. MEET THE CAST: A talkback with the talented performers that embody these unconventional characters Following the 2pm performance- The cast of Trevor, many of whom are returning from previous 1st Stage productions, are challenged in this show to balance fiction and reality as well as to portray multiple characters (often in rapid succession). We’ll hear from these extraordinary performers about their process in bringing these characters to life. FLAWED COMMUNICATION: A conversation with Ph.D. Candidate in linguistics, Taylor Jones The story of Trevor hinges on the inability of Trevor (the chimpanzee) and Sandra (his owner) to communicate. They each speak a bit of each other’s language, but not enough to truly understand one another. Join us for a discussion about communication tactics, nonverbal communication, and communication across languages with Taylor Jones, returning following a captivating discussion during Lobby Hero.

In a time when flawed communication is a great challenge facing our country, join us to discuss this extremely relevant topic through the lens of our new play.
