Help for People Experiencing Financial Crisis As part of the Governments welfare reform and localism agenda, the Social Fund has been reformed and some of the responsibilities including crisis loans and Community Care Grants transferred from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to local authorities on 1st April 2013. Rutland County Council have developed a scheme.  The policy can be viewed here. Rutland's Local Financial Crisis Support scheme will provide support for emergency situations such as: Cash flow crisis due to starting work and not being paid Reconnection of fuel supply after being cut-off Leaving Care and starting to live independently The scheme will not provide: Additional income for those who are unable to manage their budget within their means, where expenditure is high and can be reduced Carpets, curtains or household ornaments Support for those who fail to comply with the requirements to obtain their income through the appropriate channels, eg they fail to meet the job centre requirements for looking for work

The majority of applicants will be claiming other welfare benefits or have applied for them. The applicant will be experiencing extreme and severe hardship and have no other source of support available to them. How can I make a claim? Applications can be made directly to the Council using this application form, copies of which are available at the Council Offices.  Alternatively via the Citizens Advice Bureau who can be contacted on 0845 1203705 or visit their website. What type of help is given? Procured goods are given most commonly for homeless people being housed for the first time or those fleeing domestic violence. A variety of suppliers are used including Melton Furniture Project, Second Hand City and local retailers. Supermarket vouchers are sometimes provided for food and toiletries.
