jcpenney roman shades blackout Did you know The Salvation Army was a pioneer in charity shops?

In the 19th century The Salvation Army was one of the first ever charities to run a second-hand clothing shop to provide affordable clothes. 150 years later and nothing has changed. As we did all those years ago, we make sure that everything we sell is good quality and affordable. We sell mainly second-hand goods donated by the public. You’ll find a variety of items in our charity shops, from bargains and collectables to a fantastic range of fashions, household items, films, music and bestselling books. Many of our shops sell furniture items and we have two specialist charity furniture shops in the UK - on Wellington Street in Luton and on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow. These stores accept and sell all types of furniture, and often a number of upcycled items, and will provide free collection services. How can you help? We rely on the generosity of our local communities and we’re always on the look-out for donations and volunteers. Our volunteers are key members of the team and there are lots of different jobs that need doing from sorting through the donated stock to window dressing and helping customers with their purchases.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to learn new skills or brush up on old ones and volunteering can be a lot of fun too – you certainly get to meet lots of new people. If you think you can spare any time at all, from a few hours to a few days a week, please pop into one of our shops. You don’t need any experience, although if you do have some retail knowledge we can definitely put it to good use. To find out more about how to volunteer, click here. We are also very grateful to accept donations. If you’re having a clear out, make sure you don’t throw out your unwanted clothes, shoes, accessories or homewares; you’d be surprised at just how much use we can make of your donations and how much money we can raise to help fund our work across the UK. All we ask is that the items are clean and in good condition, and that no electrical items are included as we cannot safety test them. If you would like to donate through a donation bank, please visit our Salvation Army Trading Company website to find your nearest location.
