You can recycle a wide range of plastics including: plastic bottles (e.g. milk, soft drinks and shampoo), plastic pots (e.g. yoghurt, cream and soup), plastic tubs (e.g. margarine and ice cream), plastic trays (e.g. meat, fruit and ready meals) plastic bags, plastic film and wrapping (around magazines, multi-packs and food) and blister packs (sealed plastic packaging often with a cardboard backing used for small items such as batteries and toys, and backed with foil for tablets). Please wash your containers and foil. This helps to keep your recycling cleaner and prevents smells. There is no need to remove the windows from envelopes. However, please take the paper out of junk mail/magazine wrappers and cereal liners from the boxes, and place all the separated items in the recycling bin. Please put this in a carrier bag to keep it contained, and place it in your recycling bin. These are made from toughened glass which has a higher melting point, making it impossible to recycle them together. It is important that these items are kept out of your recycling box as they could contaminate an entire load and prevent it from being recycled. Please use a suitable box or carrier bags (no black sacks) for extra recycling and place by the side of your recycling bin. Please remember to keep your glass separate from other recyclable materials. Don't use any bags to put out extra glass. We are unable to provide smaller bins for recycling but you can use your red-handled caddy, a suitable box or non-black bags for your recycling instead.

Cardboard is now a more valuable material and the new waste and recycling service provides an opportunity to collect it for recycling instead of composting it. The contents of the recycling bins are initially bulked up at Wealden's recycling depot in Uckfield before being transported to the Pure Recycling Ltd MRF in Warwickshire. Here the materials are sorted both mechanically and by hand into the individual materials and then sold onto reprocessors. The raw materials are then sold to those with the greatest demand for it. The vast majority of materials are processed within the UK. The glass collected from your recycling box is recycled separately by Berryman (UK) or sent to European plants for recycling. No, please place your caddy with your glass bottles and jars next to your recycling bin. If your unwanted items can be re-used there are several charities in the local area you can donate them to. Some may come to your home and pick up the items for free. Alternatively, we provide a Bulky Household Waste Collection service and if we can reuse or recycle it, we will.
