I never washed it, so the paint must have come off from just the water from the shower. This is very poor quality for a shower curtain and I would NOT RECOMMEND it! I like the curtain, but it smells so bad The material is on the thin side, thinner than any shower curtain I've ever used or ever purchased in my life, but that's OK because I use it with a mildew-resistant liner.

I put a white shower curtain liner behind it, and the shower curtain is no longer a see-thru curtain. The white liner brought out the curtain's beauty. I have had more compliments on this low priced curtain, than I have ever had on my expensive curtains, which are now stacked in my closet. I purchased this shower curtain a few years ago and it still looks as good as the day I bought it. I use a shower liner which protects the curtain from discoloring. This shower curtain is a disappointment compared to other Mainstays & PEVA. The colors are not as shown. It has a "dull" or faded look to it. I did not return it hoping to use it on screened porch.
