Since then, the Mad Hatter has been using traditional family recipes that have been passed down for generations using both quality farm to table interpretations of classical dishes and daring new ventures into the uncharted territories of food.MAD HATTER was inspired by the owner's late father, who once owned a tea room of his own and dreamed of opening a modern day tea room where patrons of all ages would gather for great food, celebrations, and great conversation. Since his passing, his daughter was determined to make his dream come true.

Sakko's father always carried a pocket watch and tea was a big tradition in their family.  After 16 years of hard work and struggle, the Mad Hatter was finally born!  The interior design reflects the story of Alice in Wonderland and the hip sensibilities of the surrounding area while also paying tribute to Birmingham's storied past. The dual-level restaurant offers the choice of dining down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland or dining in a sophisticated, eclectic dining room while watching the Mad Scientists in the art of cooking as it occurs in their open-kitchen. A seasonal outdoor patio is also available from April-November. Eileen Sakko has an extensive background with over 15 years of culinary expertise. Sakko owned and operated the world famous Pastrami Club for 7 years which has been a staple in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for over 35 years. Prior to that, Eileen Sakko worked at Franklin Hills Country Club for 8 years, working side by side with Chef Essie Moore,  a legend who had been serving classical favorites to the members for over 40 years.
