The owners of the Montréal-Mirabel International Airport have confirmed that, after a decade lying vacant, it will finally demolish the airport's sleek black terminal building.

Clos Mirabel Manor E-MAIL: Lat, Long Map Events Painting Holidays at Clos Mirabel 14 – 21 October 2017 Discover Clos Mirabel C los Mirabel is a beautiful fifteen-acre estate between coast and mountains. Its 18th Century Manor House is set in private parkland amidst the gentle hills of Jurançon with magnificent uninterrupted views out over vineyards to the entire chain of the Pyrénées Atlantiques. The owners Ann and André fell in love with the property 13 years ago and have renovated all the accommodation, sensitively blending new and old. In the midst of this remarkable landscape, Clos Mirabel offers several choices to stay in Bed & Breakfast or fully furnished Houses and Studios ideal for family holidays, romantic breaks, and overnight stays for work or leisure. A haven of peace, ever changing light and tranquillity, it is the perfect location for Painting Holidays, Retreats, Family Occasions, Meetings and Seminars.

It is open all year round including Christmas and New Year. Clos Mirabel is a few minutes from Pau with its Chateau, golf courses, race tracks and only 30 minutes to Lourdes. It is less than an hour from the mountains, ski resorts, cycling routes and hiking paths of the Pyrénées Atlantiques. Biarritz, on the Atlantic Coast, is an hour away as is the Spanish border. San Sebastian in the Spanish Basque Country is only an hour and a half away. Bilbao with its Guggenheim Museum is an easy day trip. Bordeaux and Toulouse are two hours away. A very special place to stay in the Pyrénées all year round. tripadvisor © Client Testimonial 5 out of 5 — Elizabeth265 - Melbourne, AustraliaMirabel Airport opened in 1975, just in time for the 1976 Montreal Olympics. At the time it was the largest airport in the world, and meant to solve the problems of Montreal’s (supposed) overcrowded Dorval Airport (now Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport).

While Mirabel Airport was sited a fair distance (34 miles) outside of downtown Montreal, the master plan was to construct high speed rail and a highway to provide easy access for travelers. However, the rail was never constructed and the highway ended before the airport. Mirabel became too inconvenient for travelers and airlines, all of whom preferred Dorval Airport. Passenger numbers never reached the predictions of 20 million, and slowly declined, with passenger service ending in 2004. Since then, the terminal has sat empty, used only for the filming of a few films (The Terminal; Warm Bodies, for example). The former passenger airline runway is used for racing tracks (a brilliant adaptive reuse of all that pavement!) The airport serves only cargo planes. However, an abandoned airport is particularly on the creepy side, when you consider that it’s a modern relic. The approach to the airport includes an empty parking garage on one side and the abandoned hotel on the other side. The Chateau Aeroport-Mirabel closed in 2002 due to lack of business.
