Working part-time at The Warehouse, in order to spend more time with her children, McIver had no viable way of making her house warmer. The final straw came when making one of her foster children's beds."I was horrified one day when I went and changed his sheets and he'd been sleeping on a foam bed and it was moldy," McIver said. "I'd been struggling for quite a few winters with that cold house . . . it was like a gale coming through the floor, and the curtains would move in the rooms." A friend put her on to the programme. McIver was eligible for free ceiling and underfloor insulation.Since then, there had been "such a difference", McIver said. "I can leave the curtains open during the day these days and the sun will warm up the room."
