In 1951, the fledgling textile company commissioned young Finnish artists such as Riitta Immonen and Vuokko Nurmesniemi to design a range of prints thus kick-starting its iconic line of fabrics. Continuing to develop its range of products Marimekko has nutured a distinctive illustrative style that is immediately synonymous with mid-century design. By collaborating with both students and leading designers, they have been able to widen their scope to include both a range of soft accessories of tableware.
