Detective Sergeant Lee Holehouse from West Mercia Police said he also hoped the custodial sentences delivered last week to the three men found guilty of the crime would be a warning to others. Mohammed Ansar Khan, 31, from Whitehall Road, Tipton, Muserat Khan, 36, from Greets Green Road, West Bromwich, and Ateek Khan, 28, from Oak Road, West Bromwich – pictured right – were sentenced to a total of almost 17 years after admitting conspiracy to kidnap. The incident in March saw the victim and her children forced into a car in Leg Street despite attempts by passers-by to intervene. A short time later the vehicle was stopped by police on the A5 near Shrewsbury. At Shrewsbury Crown Court last week, Mohammed Anser Khan was jailed for six years, Muserat Khan for five years and nine months, and Ateek Khan for five-and-a-half years. A similar charge was dropped against a fourth man, Zahoor Hussain, 39, also of Whitehall Road, Tipton. All four men were made subject to a restraining order preventing them from having any contact with the victim and her children.

The court heard the defendants had hired two cars to travel to Oswestry to kidnap the victims, who had been travelling in a taxi. John Oates, prosecuting, said the incident happened around 4pm outside Griffin Courtyard in Leg Street. “The woman had been in the taxi when it stopped and she got out. The two older children got out as well,” he said. “The defendants appeared and one of the windows of the taxi was smashed with a crowbar.
