Cristian Zuzunaga for Kvadrat (DK) Posted by Nora Schmidt on 22.09.2010 - Tagged as: Cristian Zuzunaga, Denmark, Kvadrat, London Design Festival, pattern, textile, textile design His impressing colourful visual landscapes were discovered by one of the best textile companies. Kvadrat will launch a new collection of textiles designed by the Barcelona born and London based pattern designer Cristian Zuzunaga. His cushion collection, ‘Squaring of the Circle’, consists of three designs, named ‘Spirit’, ‘Soul’ and ‘Fire’, which are all constructed from pixels – the designer’s trademark pattern. Each cushion will be unique thanks to the repeat of the printed fabric. This as well as Cristian Zuzunaga’s curtain collection ‘Skyline and Cityscape’ will be presented during this year’s London Design Festival at the Kvadrat showroom, 10 Shepherdess Walk, London N1 7LB. The site-specific installation is a moving image piece, curated by Cristian Zuzanaga and in collaboration with Digital Tea, which visualises the journey of Cristian Zuzunaga’s work with Kvadrat through colour, shapes and architecture.

“This installation is trying to visualize an experience of the city, or of a global city environment. It is inspired by a supercity like Shanghai, where plasma screens and buildings are covered with moving image pieces and I have recreated a little of that skyline with this collection with Kvadrat. When you see for example the Skyline textile collection folded, as they are in curtains, it gives a curious impression that it is digital”, says Cristian. “I am interested in finding a correlation between the digital and real world and textiles were the perfect excuse to marry both. And also with the imagery that we are using, shapes come from photographs that come from the environment, and from these we start journeying in until we break it down to the essence: zooming in and zooming out. This installation for the London Design Festival aims to bring people into the journey of colour and fabric that has created the Squaring the Circle collection.” more Kvadrat products @ Architonic

’The Revolving Room is based around constant cycles. Hypnotically circular and repetitious rhythm is emphasised by the oversized embroidered fabrics’ she said. Placing the Kvadrat fabrics over Soft Cells, the team were able to create a constantly-fluctuating visual installation of blurred shapes and muted hues that provided the perfect backdrop to the launch itself.
