CUTTACK: Khus curtain-makers make hay as the Millennium City swelters amid frequent power cuts and rising temperature, sometimes beyond 40 degree Celsius. The weather has increased the demand for the traditional, eco-friendly cooling curtains, locally referred to as 'benachar'. "This summer has brought good tidings for us. Khus khus curtains and mats are selling like hot cakes, helping us to revive the traditional business. We are working overtime to fulfill the orders of customers," said Krishna Rao, a khus khus curtain-maker. "With the availability of coolers and air-conditioners at cheaper rates, our business was affected in the past few years. But this year lady luck has smiled on us and we are making good profits. Till now, I have sold khus khus mats worth Rs 20,000," said Ganesh, a khus khus maker among 70 families in the city, who earn their livelihood by making khus khus mats and curtains.
