I bought PVC pipe at Home Depot and cut it to the length I need, then primed it with spray paint, and spray painted it black with a coat of enamel spray paint over top of that to prevent chipping. For the end pieces, I super glued styrofoam inside the 2 ends, and bought 2 finials that have the screws in the ends, and pushed them into it. They look exactly like a store bought curtain rod. I hung them up with brackets on each end, and one in the center, to support the weight of the curtains. All in all, this rod cost me less than $20.
