The Full Bar - all my pages The Session Beer Project Just got this from Guy Hagner. There have been problems at the brewery; I've been silent on this because there is pending legal action, but it looks like everything's coming out in the open. I understand that Tom Clark is giving a statement to Jack Curtin; check his blog for more. The resource requested could not be found on this server! Once again, Uncle Jack scoops the area at the Beer Yard site: John Harvard's in Wayne has closed. This hardly comes as a surprise to anyone who's been watching the slow contraction of the once far-flung JHBH empire. I find it hard to cry, to be honest. JHBH, with a few tiny exceptions, is about the lowest a chain brewpub could go and still be "good." This set of brewpubs was once a force to be reckoned with, a brewing gut-muscle.

Now they're just waiting around. WHAT'S IN THE BEER FRIDGEThe first thing you notice is the red color. Not quite a blood red, but given its inspiration, it was almost expected. Brewery Ommegang’s third entry in its ‘Game of Thrones’ series delivers to the masses Fire And Blood, a red ale. See why there was a bloody expectation? The momentary color diversion over, it’s time to partake of Fire And Blood, which Ommegang was kind enough to send in advance of its release. A big bite and a better burn are the two dominant characteristics that hit you upon the beer hitting your mouth. A distinct collection of hops give it bite while Ancho chilies – thankfully de-seeded – supply the burn. The two combine to eventually overtake a fruity, even almost a sweet malt taste, and deliver a seriously dry, saliva sapping finish that announces this beer means business. It’s the most ambitious of the three offerings so far in the series, following the initial release of Iron Throne, a tasty blond ale, and Take the Black Stout, a roasted malt masterpiece.

Fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ will identify with this beer, which Ommegang has based on Daenerys Targaryen and her three dragons: Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion. Three labels have been developed and the beer will be available in all three when it hits store shelves March 31, six days ahead of the Season 4 premiere April 6 on HBO. Fire And Blood, carrying a 6.8 ABV, will be for sale in 750 ml corked bottles and bars will get sixtels.

Pretty sure it will hold its own with betrothings, beheadings and blood baths, too. You get the feeling ‘Game of Thrones’ devotees want a beer that is stout, not wimpy. Fire And Blood not only stands on its own, it slaps you in the face just for fun. Expect a bloody good time.
