ikea curtains lenda

PROJECTS FOR THE HOME If you follow me on instagram you might have seen me working on these curtains a few weeks ago.  I actually finished them a while back, but I had a horrible time trying to photograph them.  These pictures are the best I could do, but I think that I like them better in real life. These curtains are for our new "playroom" space in our new home addition. We see this room being used for playing, practicing the piano, and doing homework. I wanted the room's decoration to be an inspiring place for learning, but also just really fun.  At first I thought I'd do line drawings of molecules (sorry!  Showing my inner science geek here!) but I was inspired to do constellations on the curtains after seeing these sky napkins from Anthropologie.  My kids LOVE looking at the stars! I purchased the LENDA curtains from Ikea, and cut off the top rings. I folded over the top of the curtains and pinned them.  This became the passageway for my curtain rod. It helped being able to pin them all out at once so that I could make sure everything was straight.
I simply sewed it up and removed the pins: Then it was time to lay out the constellations.  I picked 6 different constellations and free handed them on pieces of printer paper.  Then I alternated five constellations per row,  First I laid them out to just see how everything looked. Then I placed my templates under the curtains and just traced with a fabric maker. After I finished the row, I laid out the next line of constellations.  Since I only had 6 different constellations total, I rotated each constellation so that it would look a bit different. I finished the two panels in less than two hours, and it wasn't near as tedious as I thought it might be. And here they are closed with a sneak peak of the rest of the room.  I love how the curtains are mostly white from a distance, but still have a little bit of design to make things interesting :-)  What do you think? We're just finishing up on 2 rooms that have new floors, baseboard trim and new paint on the walls.
The final step is window treatments and I've been on the hunt for new curtains for 3 large windows for a while. I would love to sew them myself, but with 3 windows, that's over 18 yards of fabric and 18 yards of lining...that would be hundreds of dollars. Financially not possible right now. Sometimes when you can't find exactly what you're looking for, a little transformation of one thing can lead to just what you need! I found tab top curtains at Ikea for $19.00 for TWO panels!! Yes, you read that correctly. Two panels per package for $19…unheard of these days. I wasn't looking for tab top curtains, but the color was perfect and the 98 inch length was the yardage I needed. So, this is what I turned them into with just 2 straight lines of stitching… Pop in to see how easy… These are the tab top curtains. First way to sew them "without" the ruffle at the top To transform the tab top to back tab curtains, just lay the curtains with the wrong side facing up.
Fold over each tab… and pin the end of the each tab down. Sew all the way across the curtain, catching each tab end in the stitching.modern jardiniere net curtains This will create a loop for the curtain rod, but there won't be a ruffle at the top. new humphrey's corner tab top curtainsIt will lay flat on the rod.damask shower curtain kmart This is the back with the rod in, if I had sewn the tabs down.jcpenney cascade curtains Second way to sew them "with" a ruffle at the topcurtain rod extender at target
To get a classic ruffle look without a lot of fabric gathering, you will need to sew 2 lines of stitching. Still fold over the tab, but pin in 2 spots.ikea werna curtains uk Stitch the bottom of the tabs again as before and then stitch another line depending on how wide your curtain rods is.jcpenney madeline curtain Third way to hem the curtains from the top and make the ruffle! These next pictures are the actual way I sewed mine. To avoid hemming the bottom up 2 inches, I turned down the top 2 inches on the original stitch line shown by the arrow. This was a coincidence that I needed to hem them 2 inches and the casing was 2 inches. If you need to hem your curtains too, just fold down what you need to shorten at the bottom. I pinned all the way across on the edge (top arrow) and also pinned each tab down (bottom arrow).
Here is the whole panel pinned. First, I sewed the line of stitching on the right. I just followed the manufacturer's stitching. Then I sewed another continuous line of stitching, 2 inches apart from that, catching the tabs. My rods are narrow, so adjust the width for your rods. Here are the finished stitching lines. Then here again with part of the rod through the back tabs, so you can see what it looks like. Finished in just minutes!! I chose the curtains in the same color family as the walls, because I change the decorations throughout the house with the colors of the seasons and holidays. It makes it fun and easy to add inexpensive splashes of color with accessories and have the walls and curtains as a neutral backdrop. When I'm all done, I show you the finished rooms. Home Guides How to Use Curtain Tiebacks How to Use Curtain Tiebacks When using curtain tiebacks, you're always going to want to keep a couple of very important things in mind.
Find out how to use curtain tiebacks with help from a home decorating expert in this free video clip. Video Transcript Hi my name is Bayanne Mihtar. I'm an interior designer and we're here in my design studio Bayanne Design Group in San Diego, California. Today we're talking about how to use curtain tie backs. Curtain tie backs add the finishing touch to your window treatment. Most common the curtain tie backs that are used are the rope and tassel like the one shown here. These are the most common but there are endless varieties that you can choose from depending on the color scheme or style that you're going for. With this rope and tassel type of tie back, choosing a trim that correlates with it is a great idea to keep the formality of these type of window treatments. Also hold backs are one way of holding back your curtain tie backs. With this one I've chosen a dark mahogany wooden hold back which correlates with the top finials that are added at the top of the window treatment to hold up the curtains.
