My absolutely favorite artist for Chinoiserie art for the home is Harrison Howard. He has very recently added some new works to his Chinoiseries collection. These are some of my favorites ever. Available in the original watercolor and in limited edition giclee prints that are extraordinarily beautiful, one or a pair of these would be an incredible focal point for an entryway, dining room, living room, or bedroom.
His work is a favorite of top interior designers. Click here to see his entire portfolio and be sure not to miss his new pieces under Gardens and For Children as well. A pre-war Greek Revival townhouse with a long history of “ultra-chic owners,” the 3,000-square-foot home is almost too good to be true. With three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and hardwood floors throughout, the space is flooded with natural light—a rarity in Manhattan—and has a certain glow the designer describes as “ethereal.” By capitalizing on the soft light of the space and introducing bold colors and artwork throughout, Carlyle created a home perfect for the professional pair to grow into. When something works, it really works. So is the case with the partnership between Jordan Carlyle, president of Carlyle Designs, and his clients, a young, artistically inclined couple with a growing family. Repeat clients of the New York-based designer, the family approached Carlyle to design their new home, which is located in the city’s Chelsea neighborhood. When something works, it really works. A pre-war Greek Revival townhouse with a long history of “ultra-chic owners,” the 3,000-square-foot home is almost too good to be true.
By capitalizing on the soft light of the space and introducing bold colors and artwork throughout, Carlyle created a home perfect for the professional pair to grow into. The unique architecture of the home offers multiple skylights and large windows, which means the soft interiors are flooded with light. “There’s such a beautifully calming presence to it,” the designer shares. “We took advantage of the natural light throughout the entire space and played up the color you see used in the furnishings and artwork.” West Elm Droplet Glass Pendant ($399) Open-minded clients—she’s a jewelry designer whose wares are carried at Barneys, he’s a powerful marketing strategist—described by the designer as “the ultimate creative power couple,” the homeowners were already fans of Carlyle’s work, having hired the designer before. Horchow Jonathan Adler Jacques Acrylic Mirror ($1350) Trust already firmly in place, Carlyle and his team were given total creative freedom to craft this artistic, glamorous space.
“Having designed previous homes for this client, I already had a good sense of their aesthetic and love for transitional, Art Deco, and abstract design styles,” the designer shares. Pattern Society Empire Rug (from $99) Having artistic inclinations themselves, Carlyle’s clients were game to use large-scale patterns and rich upholstery to decorate their space. “We all agreed that this home could handle bold statements and we kind of just felt that bold is beautiful,” he shares. Zinc Door Worlds Away Molecule Gold Leaf Iron Coffee Table ($3313) Williams-Sonoma Seated Marble Obelisk ($249) Inspired by a vintage piece, the custom dining table combines beautiful form with requested function. “The square table was ideal for this unique space,” the designer says. “The table’s size offered maximum seating and tabletop space per our client’s request.” Scenario Home Ella Octagon Beveled Mirror ($355) Pulp Home Set of Three Star Objects ($173)
“The nursery was truly a labor of love. It was very exciting to create that type of environment,” Carlyle shares. “This is a space that should evoke a sense of playfulness, wonderment, and relaxation.” Pottery Barn Peal Embroidered Duvet Cover ($99) When asked for advice on decorating children’s spaces, the designer is direct. “Keep it simple, functional, and whimsical,” he shares. Though given artistic freedom to design this space for a client the designer already had a relationship with, the project was not without its difficulties. Codor Design Floating Dresser (price upon request) “The actual delivery of furniture was a challenge,” Carlyle says. “The hallways, staircases, and doorways are extremely narrow, as this is a landmark home and the majority of the layout is still true to the original plan from 1910.” “Overall, the project was amazing and we had so much fun designing it,” Carlyle concludes. “They are definitely one of my favorite clients.”
