Amazing grounds and a fab place for breakfast down the road. Great hotel, will be going back!breakfast expensive and poor value. 눇We got upgraded to a room for not extra charge that was a suite rather than our standard double room 눉The swimming area was like a leisure centre, and not very well lot.눇The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The evening meal was delicious. 눉The cleanliness and upkeep is not good enough throughout manor house hotel. On arrival, first bedroom found curtain blind on floor and dried muddy foot prints ingrained into carpet outside bedroom door. After complaining we were moved to another room which was adequate however some what small.눇The brassiere bar and restaurant 눉The massage/facial spa therapists were not very special. The lighting in the bedroom was very dim and I couldn't read in bed.눇Staff polite and helpful. Breakfast was good and one supper was delicious and the other not so delicious. Helpful staff in the spa area. 눉The wallpaper was peeling off in our room, hotel didn't seem very friendly.눇The surrounding scenery around the hotel. 눉Although the rooms were very clean and modern - they were also incredibly small!눇The exterior of the building and the setting is beautiful. The lobby looks great. 눉Bfast could be more warm and sausages bit nicer but still good

This hotel is linked to an adjoining Crowne Plaza hotel and if you are visiting for the first time it can be confusing to know which one you have booked. We arrived after dark and had problems finding our way to the main house reception. None of the signage on the 1.5 mile drive from the main road was lit, so we did not know where we were going (we're pretty switched on normally!). We spent our whole time there meeting other guests who were either a) lost or b) lost.
The first room we were shown to was very small - smaller than an average Premier Inn room. This was in a new wing attached to the old, main house. There are 270 rooms in total of which just 10 (?) are in the main 18th century house. We asked to be moved and were kindly upgraded to a room in the main house at no extra charge. The hotel was quite empty as it was the period right in the middle between Christmas and the New Year. Some other areas of the adjoining buildings are more 1970's and a little less impressive. Clean, well decorated and still OK but just outdated.눇Absolutely wonderful 18th Century English stately home building - we stayed in the main house - and the room (deluxe double?) was spacious, very comfortable and well appointed. The bathroom, in particular, was huge with lovely period pieces. A really beautiful room. The surrounding landscapes are beautifully impressive and it is a real "destination" hotel. Chap at front desk (on secondment from a sister hotel in Reading) was very helpful if a little confused by all the systems.
