It's not quite the ubiquitous 'rainy days and Mondays' around here today.  But, I could certainly use a bright little pick-me-up just about now on the busy Monday afternoon. And nothing does that quite as well as these luscious images from James and Whitney Fairchild's home in the Hamptons - featured in the June 2004 issue of House and Garden.  God I miss this magazine.  And, yes, I still have my original copy of this issue.  In the exclusive stack of magazines.  Right where I can find it. If you're having a typical Monday - and need a few moments of relaxation - please.  This is one of those occasions when I see an image of a home.  And also know that I could not have this charming little bathroom for myself.  I've also been drawn back to this image numerous times over the last few days since I've seen it.  Intrigued at each of the pictures.  Wondering about the life they all represent.  But, I know I wouldn't replicate it. I always try to remember when I'm surfing around looking at interior design images - these rooms where never designed to please me.
They have been designed (either through the incredible talents of an interior designer - or through the great innate style of the occupant - or, ever better - both!) to delight the lucky soul that has the pleasure of residing there.  So pictures like this one both charm and inspire me - though I can't really see it as a part of my own home.  My response is never black or white.  It's never "I need to find that exact same sink"  Or "How could someone live with all that art on the walls!" I try to see the homeowner.  And project their emotions about living in the space . . . Imagine starting your day in the midst of this frenzy of memories.  Seeing great friends each morning.  Being surrounds by all manner of nostalgia each night before bed. Oh, it's beginning to work its magic charm on me once again. SMW Design, Dining Room Gregory Peck, the original "Man in the Gray Flannel Suit."Menswear inspired bedroom in San Francisco. And I google my own name."  You do it as well. But, on a particularly quiet night here at the house - I did a google image search.  And it was kinda fascinating.  There's also a marvelous little tool on 'google image search' in which you can classify and organize pictures by their colour.  You can image search using 'brown.'  Seriously, if you're home (and kinda bored), it can be hours of entertainment - lol. So the other night (in the aforementioned state of being home, and kinda bored) - I was checking to see what was out there on ye olde interwebs - I realized how much 'red' I use in many of my projects. We loved sleeping in and waking to a delicious breakfast waiting on the porch in front of our door!
The animals were a cool twist. It was so peaceful even though there were other people there. Friendly, helpful, and fun! The outlying ares were fun as well! A peaceful getaway & over-the-top customer service! on March 14, 2014 Every aspect of our stay showed an attention to detail - from our name on the suite door, to the chilled wine, to the cut rose placed delicately on our hand towels, to the complimentary firelog, to the lights on since we came in late... I could also rave about the breakfast which was brought to our room, warm and fresh, both mornings. The pastries were tasty, the eggs well-seasoned, the fruit fresh, and the presentation adorable. The Suite Texas has both an in-room heart-shaped tub (with complementary bath salts) and a stand-up shower. There were light dimmers throughout the suite which really contributed to the romantic atmosphere. I loved the slightly "Old World", slightly rustic decor with pops of cobalt, red, & mustard yellow. The part that took our breath away about Serenity Farmhouse was what they did for us after we left.
We were 2 hours down the road when I realized I'd left my wallet somewhere. The kind people at Serenity, including the owner, searched through the trash to find it...Unfortunately, they didn't find it, but it wasn't for lack of trying. I'd go back the Serenity in a heartbeat. Next time, I'd like to stay longer than two nights, though. on December 10, 2013 Me and my husband have been married 10 yrs and the was his way of saying I LOVE U . It worked the room was beyond what I expected. The only problem I had was there was no mention about all the cats. For me no problem but my son and his girlfriend of 4 yrs can't come here because she is very allergic to cats . The other thing our bed was horrible it sunk in the middle ... But I will say it was the best bed and breakfast I have ever seen The name says it all... on August 13, 2013 My girlfriend and I spent this weekend at the White Willow cottage. Our visit and stay was truly perfect and I never throw that word around lightly.
Our time at the Farmhouse Inn was truly magical. It was our 3 month anniversary on 8-9-13 and my girlfriend's birthday on 8-11-13. After having stayed there I cannot imagine anywhere that would have been more special or perfect. The moment we drove into the beautiful grounds we found that the landscaping was flawless. We were then personally greeted by name when we pulled up and we had barely even stepped out of our car yet. We were then personally walked to our cottage and were shown around. The cottage was spotless and beautiful. We were blown away by the incredible breakfast that was served directly to our doorstep exactly on time both mornings we were there. The spread was amazing and fresh and the quality and flavor of the food was top-notch. Both days we were greeted personally by the owner after we finished the breakfast to ensure we were satisfied Other staff members also checked on us to ensure our satisfaction. We also enjoyed a beautiful sunset in the perfectly maintained pool across from our cottage.
We also stayed in long enough to enjoy a moonlit night. All I can say about this stay and it is so inadequate is.... I did not tell my girlfriend we were going here as it was a surprise. We drove 4+ hours from Fort Worth, TX. I was hopeful that it would be nice but it exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds and was worth every hour driven. Thank you so much for the incredible weekend. We will not ever forget our experience and intend to come back as often as possible. Pictures don't do it justice. on May 26, 2013 We stayed in White Willow cottage for our anniversary. The room was so clean and refreshing and all the amazing soaps and bath salts were so nice for the Jacuzzi tub. It was so peaceful to sit out on the front porch and take in the hill country. We swam in the lit pool after dark that was lit with beautiful colored lights. And both mornings a hot breakfast was brought to our room. We enjoyed ourselves so much. We can't wait to go back. Wimberley is also a beautiful place to visit.
Fantastic Bed and Breakfast. on May 10, 2012 Very quite and peaceful. Our stay at serinity was fantastic, great room, great food. Okay but great stars at night. on July 05, 2011 This inn is off the beaten track nestled in the hills of Wimberly. It has a fantastic pool with panoramic view of the countryside and stars at night. We were dissappointed that breakfast was served late for us at 9:30 but they did bring us biscuits at 8:15 the first day. Breakfasts were what I did at home. Scrambled eggs and sausage and satisfying. We also missed showers as the heart shaped tub was it. The jet flew off at me when I turned it on so mantainence was needed. The beds were very high and jello like. The place has potential but needs upkeep. We did like the pigs and donkeys. on January 04, 2011 Just completed a three night stay in Gabriella's Garden Cottage and we are already wanting to go back! This was our second time to stay at Serenity and each time we are amazed at the beauty of our surroundings.
