At yesterday’s mass, a prayer of the faithful was dedicated to Caitríona with mourners told “we give thanks for the bravery and dedication that Caitríona showed during her life”.Chief celebrant, Fr Tom Hogan also remembered Caitríona “and her circle of love” at the start of the mass as he wove together rushes to make up a St Brigid’s Cross putting together all the strands of David’s life.curtains and blinds littlehampton Caitriona Lucas (41) who died tragically in a rescue mission in Kilkeecharlotte eyelet curtains red/natural Talented: Caitriona Lucas brought her artistic gifts into her work as a librarian in Clareblackout curtains pattaya Fr Hogan said that David and Emer got married nine months and one day ago and on the day of the wedding, he gave the couple a Brigid’s Cross.David’s body was not recovered until last Saturday when his “two beloved Uncles” Michael and Frank spotted his body in the waters off Kilkee.
One of David’s sisters, Sharon told mourners that the family regards all the volunteers who searched for David as ‘angels’.She said: “Now that we have David back in Lissycasey where he belongs, we don’t want him remembered for the accident or the search, but for all the wonderful things he did in his life. To applause from the packed Church, Sharon said: “As a brother, a son, a husband and friend, we are so proud and feel so blessed to have had him in our lives and we always will.”Fr Hogan remarked “life is strange” stating that it was only on December 28th last when David and Eimear were married “celebrating love, promise, dreams, future and family and today we are celebrating dreams, family, hope and love”. As part of the offering up of gifts, Eimear left a ‘box of memories’ from her time together with David at the altar.Fr Hogan said that “from a tender young age, David was gifted in so many ways and teaching was his chosen profession. Anyone who taught alongside him or were taught by him will know how professional he was.”
The church was packed 40 minutes before David’s coffin was brought to Church by his family yesterday and the service lasted just under two hours.During the service, Fr Hogan invoked Seamus Heaney’s final words to his wife, Marie ‘Noli Temere' - Don’t be afraid’ and words from an Irish poem translated into English, ‘There are many mes in me’ as he sought to give comfort to David’s family and friends. At the end of the ceremony, one of 13 priests to con-celebrate the mass, Ennistymon priest, Fr Willie Cummins stepped up to the microphone and said: “This is unscripted and I’m a stranger here, but I have never in my life been at a ceremony like this and I am 40 years ordained. I want to give thanks to Fr Tom Hogan.” During the mass, Fr Hogan said that David was so proud to play his football for Lissycasey and two underage medals at u14 and u16 were offered up with Fr Hogan stating that David was a sub on the senior team that won the County Championship in 2007.Members of the club later performed a guard of honour outside the Church as Mr McMahon’s remains were brought to be buried at the nearby cemetery.
