We stayed for a couple of nights in early Feb.The place is full of character, with loads of period features which made it a fun place to stay.We ate both evening meals and breakfasts here and the food was great....Breakfasts were especially good!The staff were all super friendly and helpful, especially Natalie and Teresa who were so attentive, checking that both the room and food was to our satisfaction.This is a really old building, and we loved it....If you want a "plastic" hotel go elsewhere-....We would however love to visit again. 121 reviews sorted by: Very poor service with little or no staff around in the bar or the restaurant. Food portions were very small for adults, the Lamb Shank had hardly any lamb on it and the vegetables etc that came with it were tiny! Stayed here for the night, and had dinner and breakfast here. Firstly they bumped us into superior room instead of double because of our young son, gave him more room to crawl around! Dinner was lovely, chicken supreme with a mini chicken and mushroom pie and tomato and basil mash!
(never heard of that in my life) was delicious though! Husband had steak fillet with chips and his steak was perfectly done. Our bed was so comfortable. Shower was lovely and hot and powerful. And breakfast was just spot on! We both had a full English which says it all! Proper sausages and bacon. Would definitely go back! Great price throughout ! Hanging about in the reception awaiting to book in without a peep from the staff. Had to go to the bar and find someone.Nice building, cosy, warm clean room. Went down to eat, good menu ...but 1st choice, not available.Second choice, not available!Asked what they did have, a partial mixed grill, it was 'alright'.TV in room was rubbish reception, impossible to watch. This is a very nice place and is a very old 17th century coaching inn. That the car is excellent with a lot of original woodwork. The food was very very good and very reasonably priced. The breakfast was a superb. The service could've been a little faster for meals.The bedrooms are very comfortable with nice beds and excellent pillows.
The towels were good the TV was not big but not real small. The place has free Wi-Fi good value for money The reception needs a good tidy up and clean, but the bar/restaurant was nice, as was our bedroom and shower room. Bedroom was small, but adequate and very warm. The TV reception wasn't very good though. Reasonable choice of breakfast items and fair sized car park at rear of the inn. We stayed in room 19 in the annexe. Ceiling very low on window side of room. Luckily we are not tall, but still needed to 'duck' when on that side of the room. Nice corner bath with shower head attachment which you need to be sitting in the bath to use. Good value 3 course meal, served efficiently with good wine. The DJ was knowledgeable of his audience and filled the small dance floor well. Good choice of breakfasts. Our group 'mixed and matched' the cooked breakfasts. Serving staff were very attentive and worked particularly hard to give us a lovely new year welcome. We only stayed the one night which was ok, would have liked a room with full head height if staying for a few nights.
