A retro 1930s motor believed to be Britain's first caravan has been sold at auction for £34,500. The 1936 Pontiac Six has been described as "outstandingly original" after still being fitted with all its original features, including the curtains, water softener and old tins of jam. The time-warp motorhome went under the hammer as part of a Bonhams vintage car sale at Goodwood Revival this weekend. The original owner, Captain Dunn of Bexhill, East Sussex, ordered the motorhome in 1935 through a local coachbuilders, Russell's of Bexhill. He toured Southern England in the vehicle, which has just 9,000 miles on the clock and comes with four large photo albums of the Dunns' holidays. After Captain Dunn's death in 1946, his widow would turn the engine over every few months until her death in 1991. It left the engine in perfect condition despite having been off the road for 50 years. When the seller's father first acquired the Pontiac, he contacted Russell's of Bexhill and informed them of its existence.
Mr Russell, a member of the firm's founding family owners, revealed that the Dunn family had been close friends with both his parents and grandparents, and invited the owners to the Bexhill Festival of Motoring. At the festival, they met an elderly gentleman who had been an apprentice at Russell's in the mid 1930s and whose first job had been to work on the Pontiac motorhome. They were also introduced to the Dunn family's financial advisor, who told them that Captain Dunn had contracted polio on his honeymoon, which left him paralysed and requiring the use of a wheelchair. James Knight, Bonhams group director of motoring, said: "Such was the attractiveness of this rare and unusual vehicle, the Motorhome attracted global interest with a UK bidder securing the Lot against a USA telephone bidder for £34,500. "I had never offered such an early example before and it looked perfectly in keeping with the Revival retro theme."Britain's favourite family-owned conservatory blinds specialists Stay comfortable throughout the year and transform your conservatory with unique pure™ Conservatory Blinds...

We cannot always offer an immediate reply but we will get back to you as soon as possible Erich Mendelsohn and Serge ChermayeffThe persistence of design in the midst of even the severest persecution is one of the most remarkable aspects of classic mid-century European Architecture. Even under forceful Nazi discrimination during their rise to power between world wars, Erich Mendelsohn was able to design the De La Warr Pavilion with Serge Chermayeff during his exodus to Britain before both ultimately fled to the United States. Mendelsohn’s insistence upon the plasticity of concrete and welded steel frame construction was unprecedented in Britain at the time of his arrival.
Being on the forefront of Architects who were fleeing to Britain in avoidance of Hitler’s ever-expanding Third Reich in mainland Europe, Mendelsohn saw a great response (both positive and negative) from his newly acquired British peers and colleagues concerning his revolutionary designs.trellis grommet-top thermal cotton curtain panel pair While much of his work was considered more expressionistic than modernistic, his understanding and passion for new materials and construction techniques made him an integral part in spearheading the modernist movement throughout the world.trellis grommet-top thermal cotton curtain panel pair The influence of Erich Mendelsohn was felt in the United States before he ever actually set foot there. ikea antonius curtain
California modernist hero Richard Neutra had worked as Mendelsohn’s assistant in Germany from 1921 to 1922 before coming to America; once in the states, Neutra worked with Mendelsohn’s hero, Frank Lloyd Wright. 4 pics 1 word ticket curtains black and white swirlNeutra’s employ under Mendelsohn was also during the time that his most famous project, The Einstein Tower, was completed.  kay gould curtains made for freeBy 1930, Mendelsohn had one of the most successful Architectural practices in Germany.overstock semi sheer curtains When Hitler was named chancellor in 1933, modern architectural commissions in Germany were all but non-existent. second hand curtains wallingford
Mixed with more open Jewish persecution, Mendelsohn knew he had to leave the country. England became the perfect new home for him, as Chermayeff was already an admirer of Mendelsohn’s and needed his experience and expertise in his practice. Mendelsohn’s reputation would have probably eclipsed any other partner, but Serge Chermayeff was already upheld as a leading Architect of his time in England. Together the two were able to assimilate into the British elite and find acclaim among their commissions. One of Mendelsohn and Chermayeff’s first projects together was winning the competition for the De La Warr Pavilion, which would have been a significant step for any architect at that time, and gave Mendelsohn the perfect opportunity to boast his modernist ideals. Herbrand Sackville, the 9th Earl De La Warr, was the patron and namesake for the project. Sackville was a refreshing mixture of centuries old aristocracy with relationships to leading intellectuals of his day.
