Hands up if you don’t really want to fork out loads of cash, but you don’t know if you will survive all the ugliness?And so does Almost Makes Perfect. ( If you haven’t been reading her blog, you reaaaally should. She is pretty cool if you ask me. And instructions for this DIY are HERE) And here is the answer. Okay, maybe it was really easy because I bought the stuff and then handed it over to the husband. But even if it’s not the easiest, it is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying new handles. I used leather I got from Lapco and brass screws from Bunnings.No more ugly handles! Bleach is essentially a chemical known to remove or lighten colour, usually via oxidation. Household bleach is used around the house for whitening clothes, removing stains and also as a disinfectant to clean hard surfaces. There are various types of bleach. Oxygen bleach contains hydrogen peroxide or a peroxide-releasing compound such as sodium percarbonate.
Bleaching powder is hypochlorite. White King bleach is chlorine bleach which contains the chemical sodium hypochlorite. This chemical kills germs and disinfects clothes and household surfaces. It is the same chemical that makes swimming pools clean enough to swim in. Can White King Bleach be used on food surfaces? The disinfectant properties of White King bleach (in diluted form) provides the perfect solution for cleaning work surfaces that are not in direct contact with food. It can certainly be used to clean food surfaces, but be sure to wipe thoroughly afterward with a clean, wet cloth, then dry well. Do not use on any surfaces in direct contact with food, nor on bare steel, silver, aluminium, unpainted metal, or worn or chipped enamel baths and basins. How much White King bleach should be used? White King bleach can be used directly on most toilets, drains and sinks. For all-purpose cleaning, it can be diluted for floors and work surfaces. The correct dosage and mixing instructions for each product and purpose appears on each White King pack label.
How can I test if a fabric is colour-fast before I use a White King bleach-based product? You can use White King confidently on all whites and colourfast fabrics. Modern fabrics are generally colourfast, but if you are unsure, test a hidden part of the article in a mixture of 1/3 cup White King for 2/3 cup of water for 3 to 5 minutes. Use White King if no colour change occurs. However, always refer to manufacturers’ instructions on clothing. White King should not be used on silk, wool, viscose, rayon, Tencel, leather, acetates and drip-dry fabrics. What safety directions should I follow when using a bleach-based product? All White King products have directions on the packaging. However, also keep the following things in mind when using bleach-based products: Always ensure adequate ventilation when using a bleach-based product. Do not mix with detergents or other chemicals, especially ammonia or any product containing ammonia. If you’re in doubt, don’t mix any product with bleach.
Always wash hands after use. Store White King products at or below 25oC Bleach is a disinfectant. How is that different compared to products labelled ‘antibacterial’? Many White King products are either hospital or household-grade disinfectants. They disinfect hard surfaces by killing a broad range of bacteria, including E.coli, Listeria, Salmonella and Staphylococcus on those hard surfaces. While antibacterial products contain ingredients that kill bacteria on skin, hard surfaces and in clothes preparations, they are not necessarily formulated to eradicate a wider range of bacteria. Antibacterial household cleaning products are not classified as disinfectants. Bleach needs to be in contact with a surface long enough to be effective – usually at least five to ten minutes, depending on the surface and the job. Is bleach harmful to my skin? Although it is not harmful for bleach to come in contact with skin, it is advised to use gloves for any prolonged use of bleach (diluted or undiluted).
